It's become our new goal to sell a bunch of our crap and get out of debt. Today we opened a new bank account at a credit union so we can stop supporting the big for-profit banks. The bank provides a free debt counseling service and it looks like they might actually refinance our car at a lower interest rate. They said yes to the initial application, now they have to review our last two tax returns. We're keeping our fingers crossed.
I'm starting a new blog that is just a chronicling of our efforts to get out of debt. We've set a time frame of 2 years. 2 years to have a whole lot less junk and no debt.

I just found out today that day care for the twins will be $24K a year. I'm in currently in debt, but um, how do I stay out of it???? That's like buying a new car EVERY year!
ReplyDeleteThat's why my wife doesn't work anymore. We would have spent most of her paycheck on daycare AND our kid wouldn't be raised by us. What's the point of that? So after a little while she can eventually find something to do from home to pull in some extra income. It won't be as much as a full time job, but we're really not a fan of having our kid be raised by the daycare employee. Bonding between a parent and a child doesn't stop just because you need to go to work.
ReplyDeleteSometimes you have to change your life completely to make those sort of things work out. Even if it puts you outside of your comfort zone. We have never had one income before and it's a real struggle but we're doing what we have to to make it work. And it will benefit our kid in the long run.
Your wife is brave! I don't think that I could stay home every day. It's not my personality. I am home every day now on bedrest and trying to think of ways to generate income since I'll be out of the office for about 6 months or so. I get disability, but this is a good opportunity.
ReplyDeleteWhat I do like about day care is that the twins will get interaction and socialization with adults and other kids early on. My husband's offered to quit his job and stay home, but I don't think he realizes how much work it is!!
Why do people think that kids, even babies need "socialization"? Now they have pre-pre school for "socialization". It's much more beneficial for children, especially babies, to bond with their parents then to socialize with other people.
ReplyDeleteWe're home schooling our kids and they'll still see the outside world and know how to act around other people. They don't need constant, 5 days a week, 6-8 hours a day of socialization.
I mean, all the generations of people before us came from families where it was way more common to have a stay at home mom and all those people turned out just fine.
And the problem I have with "It's not my personality", is that it's not about you, it's about them. My wife HATES being home all day. But she knows the bonding time with the baby will be better for him in the long run.
